Biography

Suraya Hamid is a senior lecturer at the Dept of Information Systems, Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, University of Malaya (UM), Malaysia. Her academic qualifications were obtained from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) for bachelor and master degrees, and the Computing and Information Systems, University of Melbourne, Australia for PhD.  Presently, she has fifteen years of teaching experience due to having worked in Universiti Tun Abdul Razak (UNITAR) from 1999-2003 and then in the University of Malaya since 2003 until now. Suraya was involved in various research, leading to publication of a number of academic papers in the areas of information systems specifically on information seeking behaviour, e-government, Green IS, health informatics and educational technology and media.  Since 2003, she has been publishing more than 35 academic papers published in local as well as renowned international conferences. A number of her works was also published or currently in-press in respectable ISI-cited journals and a SCOPUS-cited journal. For her PhD on online social networks (OSN) in higher education, Suraya's research was widely acknowledged. This was indicated by her receiving a Google (Australia) Travel Prize in 2012. Her research was also recognised by the Australian Government in the form of an Australian Education International (AEI) Bursary Award at ISANA 2011. She actively supervises many students at all levels of study from undergraduate (i.e Bachelor degree) up to post-graduate (i.e Masters and PhD).
