Biography
Associate Professor Hoe is an Occupational Physician with a practice in the University Malaya Medical Centre. He heads the Centre for Occupational and Environmental Health-University of Malaya (COEHUM) a research centre which focused on occupational and environmental health research and consultation, and the Occupational and Environmental Health Unit in the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine, University of Malaya. He has worked with ExxonMobil, Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH), Social Security Organisation (SOCSO), National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), Hospital Kuala Lumpur, University Malaya Medical Centre, Health Clinics and Ministry of Health Malaysia. His research interest includes worksite wellness, musculoskeletal disorders, ergonomics intervention, occupational and environmental health risk assessment, evidence-based medicine and systematic reviews. In 2015 has over one million ringgit (USD 300 thousand) in research funding. Associate Professor Hoe is also a registered Public Health subject consultant for Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) studies with the Department of Environment Malaysia. In 2015, he was involved in three EIA projects with various consultation firm. The EIA projects are the establishment of a cement plant in Gua Musang, Kelantan, hydroelectric project in Jerantut, Pahang, aluminium smelter plant expansion project in Bintulu, Sarawak, and petrochemical plant expansion in Pasir Gudang, Johor. Associate Professor Hoe’s research interest includes worksite wellness, musculoskeletal disorders, ergonomics, health risk assessment, Evidence-Based Medicine and systematic reviews.
