Dr. Byrd attended medical school at Washington University in St. Louis, which is consistently ranked as one of the top five medical schools and most selective in the country. He was honored with the Robert Carter Award for exemplary performance in medical school at the graduation ceremony. He then completed his orthopaedic residency at Oregon Health and Science University being honored with the Morris Award for education and teaching. Dr. Byrd continued his training and sub-specialization with a one year fellowship at Harvard Medical School in the affiliated Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. There he worked with both orthopaedic and plastic surgeons in a unique cooperative environment combining the strengths from both disciplines to optimize the treatment and care for problems in the upper extremities of children and adults.
