Biography

Nico Buchholz was appointed Senior Vice President, Strategic Initiatives in January 2017. In this position, he works closely with Bombardier’s leadership team to pursue key growth initiatives across the company’s rail and aerospace businesses. Mr. Buchholz joined Bombardier in August 2015 as Senior Vice President and Chief Procurement Officer. In this role, he transformed the company’s procurement organization to make it more centralized, focused and efficient in support of Bombardier’s turnaround plan. He also helped the company to obtain significant cost savings and to strengthen its relationship with its suppliers. Prior to joining Bombardier, Nico Buchholz was Executive Vice President, Lufthansa Group Fleet Management for nearly 15 years in Frankfurt. Aside from fleet strategy and aircraft evaluation for a fleet of approximately 700 aircraft, his role encompassed aircraft procurement and marketing for Lufthansa as a whole. His team was instrumental in the development of various aircraft from major OEMs, including the all-new Bombardier C Series airliner. From 1998 to 2001, Mr. Buchholz worked at Rolls-Royce in Berlin, where he was responsible for marketing and sales contracts, customer service and communications of German products to worldwide customers in the military, airline and private sectors. Earlier in his career, he worked in global product marketing at Airbus Industrie in Toulouse, in the department for technical and commercial aircraft evaluation, and subsequently in marketing. Latterly, he was in charge of aircraft sales for Germany, Finland and Sweden as well as coordination with the Star Alliance. Born in Hamburg, Nico Buchholz enrolled at the Berlin Technical University in 1982 to study Aeronautical Engineering, with a focus on Flight Operations, Aircraft Design and Air Traffic. He then completed his education with a master’s degree in Air Transport Management from Cranfield University, United Kingdom, in 1989, and further training at Columbia University.
