James J. Tobin

Biography

James J. Tobin was named Magna International’s Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) in April 2010 and named President of Magna Asia in January 2012. As CMO, Tobin oversees the global coordination and alignment between Magna’s worldwide operating units to ensure effective support to the company’s customers on a global basis. As President of Magna Asia, Tobin is responsible for the ongoing strategy and development of new business with Asian-based customers, Magna’s continued expansion into Asia, and serves as one of the senior representative for Magna in Asia. Tobin held the previous position of Executive Vice President, Business Development and President of Magna Japan and Korea. Prior to joining Magna corporate, Tobin held the position of Executive Vice President, Business Development and Sales for Cosma International, Magna’s body and chassis systems unit, which is considered to be a world leader in metalforming. Before being appointed EVP, Tobin was Vice President of Sales & Marketing when joining Cosma in 2002. Prior to joining the Magna Cosma unit, Tobin spent 22 years in the machine tool and equipment field within the automotive industry, in positions ranging from Service Manager to eventually President of Lamb Technicon. Throughout his career, Tobin has gained extensive automotive manufacturing experience in many regions around the world including North America, Europe, Asia and Russia with programs dating back to the early 1990s. His primary involvement has been in engine machining and body shop manufacturing, sub systems comprising of simultaneous engineering (concurrent product/process development), mechanical and electrical engineering, system construction and programming and plant installation/startup. Tobin was born in Detroit, Michigan, and remains actively involved in the community. He chairs the Focus: HOPE Advisory Board and is Magna’s champion for the Cristo Rey Jesuit High School work study program. He is a graduate of St. John Fisher University in Rochester, New York, with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.
