Dr. Mariano Martínez Vázquez
Department of Natural Products
National Autonomous University of Mexico
Dr, Martínez obtained his Bachelor Degree in Chemistry from the Faculty of Chemistry of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), where he also studied a Master Degree in Organic Chemistry. He studied a PHD in Organic Chemistry in the Research Center and Advance Studies at the Instituto Politécnico Nacional (IPN). Later on Mario Martínez did a temporary appointment at the Laboratory of Natural Products, from University of California at the Evolutional Biology Department, Campus Irvine. he honored as a Member of the National Research System since 1986, currently he is level III.
Dr, Martínez focused on Evaluation of the anticancerigenous and anti-inflammatory properties, as well as the anxiolytic, sedative and anti-convulsive properties of secondary metabolites isolated in medicinal plants and identified by chemical and spectroscopic methods. To establish the relationship between structural changes and the biological activity through the evaluation of the biological effects of the derivatives obtained by chemical methods, based on the more active secondary metabolites.
