Biography
Shire was founded in 1986 in England by four entrepreneurs: Dennis Stephens, Harry Stratford, Peter Moriarty and Geoff Hall. Each had considerable experience in the pharmaceutical industry. The company initially launched and sold a series of calcium-based products for the treatment of bone diseases. Originally called AimCane, the company became a small office located above a shop in Hampshire. Quickly, the name was changed to "Shire", just to pay homage to the place where the company had been founded.
