Biography
Dr. Krista Salazar completed her pre-pharmacy education and earned her Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of New Mexico. She is currently Associate Professor and IPE co-coordinator of the UNM College of Pharmacy (CoP) at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center (HSC), Albuquerque, NM. Dr. Salazar has extensive experience in competency-based learning and assessment and has launched a number of successful innovative curricula in pharmacy and interprofessional education. The fundamental belief in her teaching philosophy is transformational learning that creates a safe learning environment for students to reflect and learn from their strengths and possibilities. Dr. Salazar strives to create opportunities for students to mindfully evaluate practice related concepts and personal assumptions to facilitate student-development of a life-long commitment to competent and compassionate care for patients and to enhance their own and others quality of work-life.
Research Interest
Dr. Salazar’s scholarly interests focus on how to facilitate learning among health professional students to develop relational competencies that support introspective reflection and person-centered care. Her interests include diabetes, pharmacy care, communication, transformational change, cultural competency, and developing partnerships with patients and their supportive networks, particularly those in marginalized circumstances, to promote and sustain healthy living.
