Roberto Arciero

Biography

Roberto Arciero achieved a Master's degree cum Laude in Archaeology at the Alma Mater Studiorum-University of Bologna (Italy), with final thesis about the consumption of sweet substances, as dates and honey, in the early history of human diet. Roberto's research interest are related with topics of water management, settlement strategies and social changes in Central Asia between the Bronze Age and the beginning of the Iron Age. In this respect, his interest focuses as well on remote sensing, aerial photography and GIS technologies applied to archaeology. Since 2010 he started a collaboration with Prof. Maurizio Tosi and Dr. Barbara Cerasetti (University of Bologna) within the “Turkmen-Italian Joint Project in Turkmenistan”. The italian project aimed to study the urban phenomenon in the alluvial fan of the Murghab river between the Bronze Age and the Early Iron Age through archaeological excavations, surface survey and remote sensing analysis. An important aspect is the study of the relations, coexistence and interdependence in the region between the nomadic Andronovo culture (1500-1300 BC) and sedentary Namazga VI culture (1950-1300 BC).
