Biography

Dr. Krishna Kumar Shrestha, is a Professor Botany at the Central Department of Botany, Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu, Nepal. He has obtained his PhD degree in Plant Systematics from the Komarov Botanical Institute, Russian Academy of Sciences, St. Petersburg, Russia in 1993, and worked as a Post Doctoral Darwin Fellow at the Natural History Museum, London during 1997-1999. After his Masters degree in Botany, Dr. Shrestha is teaching Plant Systematics, Biodiversity, and Ethnobotany since last 35 years. Prof. Shrestha is the Founder President of Ethnobotanical Society of Nepal (ESON) since 1997, and General Secretary of Nepal Botanical Society since 2005. He is an Editor of Flora of Nepal, and member of Editorial Board of international journals including Journal of Ethnobiology and Ethnomedicine, Plants, International Journal of Plant and Soil Science, and national journals: "Journal of Natural History Museum" and "Botanica Orientalis", and "Nepal Journal of Plant Science". Professor Shrestha has supervised three PhD scholars, and three PhD students are currently working under his supervision. Similarly, he has supervised more than 55 M.Sc. students dissertations. He has published five books, more than 40 research articles in international journals, 30 papers in national journals, and more than 30 popular or general articles. Similarly, Prof. Shrestha has coordinated about 20 international research projects, and about 10 national projects on Plant biodiversity, ecosystems and ethnobotany.
