Biography
Prof. Dr. Tilman Hackeng serves as the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operating Officer of ACS Biomarker B.V. In 1993, Prof. Dr. Hackeng presented his thesis: "The protein C pathway on endothelial cells". In 1994, he left for The Scripps Research Institute, La Jolla, CA, USA, were he worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow (NWO Talent stipendium) and Senior Research Scientist; (American Heart Association) in the Departments of Molecular and Experimental Medicine (Prof. dr. John H. Griffin) and Cell Biology (Prof. dr. Stephen B.H. Kent; Prof. dr. D.J. Loskutoff). In 1998 he accepted a position as a Research Fellow of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) at the Department of Biochemistry (Prof. dr. Jan Rosing) at the University Maastricht. In 2000, the KNAW awarded him the title of Senior Researcher. In 2002 he received a VIDI grant from NWO. Currently, he is head of the Chemical Protein Synthesis Laboratory of the Department of Biochemistry were he applies chemical protein synthesis to structure-function analysis of the anticoagulant protein C/protein S/TFPI pathways and the development of peptide/protein-based contrast agents for imaging of cardiovascular disease. He is theme leader of “humoral thrombosis and hemostasis” of the Cardiovascular Research Institute Maastricht. He is involved in multiple BSIK and CTMM consortia. He has published 68 scientific publications and supervised 4 PhD theses. Prof. Dr. Hackeng studied (bio)chemistry at the University of Utrecht were he obtained his Masters Degree in 1988 and is a graduate student in the Department of Hematology (Prof. dr. B.N. Bouma) of the University Hospital Utrecht in 1990.
