Simhambhatla

Biography

   Simhambhatla joined Alphaeon from Strathspey Crown. Prior to that, he was Senior Vice President at Abbott Laboratories and President of Abbott Medical Optics (AMO), with operating responsibility for the global cataract, LASIK and OTC corneal businesses. Prior to AMO, Dr. Simhambhatla led Abbott's Ibis Biosciences business focused on the rapid and broad detection of pathogens responsible for infections in critically ill patients. He joined Abbott through the acquisition of Guidant's vascular business in 2006, where he was Vice President and General Manager for Drug Eluting Stents, responsible for the development of the market leading Xience stent. He held a variety of roles of increasing responsibility in product development, new ventures and international commercial operations with the vascular business. Prior to Guidant, Dr. Simhambhatla started his career in the aerospace and optoelectronics industry at the Raychem Corporation in Meno Park.  Dr. Simhambhatla holds a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from Anna University in India and master's and doctorate degrees in polymer engineering from the University of Akron.
