Brian Plummer

Biography

  Brian joined CBR in 2013 as a public relations manager and has advanced in his role since joining the company, having been promoted to his current position. Tell us a little bit about yourself.  Where did you grow up?  I was born in Atlantic City, New Jersey and that is where I spent the majority of adolescence; however, I also resided in Minneapolis for 8 years – which is where my younger sister was born. What is your educational background?  I graduated from George Washington University with a degree in political science. What brought you into your field? I was exposed to the biotechnology sector through my work on behalf of one of the nation’s leading medical specialty organizations, American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, (ACOG). More specifically, in my capacity as state director of communications in California, I played an influential role in the passage of state legislation which established a public Umbilical Cord Blood Collection Program. That experience exposed me to a field poised to have a tremendous impact on the future of medicine by delivering more efficacious, long-lasting, safe and cost-effective therapies for life-threatening and life-altering conditions than are currently available today. When did you first know that you wanted to work in biotech? As I learned more about the industry at large, I decided that this cutting-edge field represented a unique opportunity to build upon my previous public relations experience to support the communications goals of organizations that are advancing biotechnology. What do you most enjoy about your current job?  Working alongside passionate, talented colleagues who share a similar vision for positively impacting the lives of patients. In addition, being part of a company that requires a willingness to look beyond the edge of what's possible. What would you most love to be doing in 10 years? Professionally, I see myself in a senior executive role within the biotech industry, leading a department of talented, dedicated public affairs professionals. Personally, my wife and I expect to be raising healthy, happy children. Tell us about some of your interests/hobbies outside of AMAG? I am an avid backpacker, experiencing the unique landscapes of America’s national parks. During these memorable and adventurous trips, I make it a point to veer off the beaten path to discover hidden gems that many visitors never see. In my experience, hitting the trail works out your body as much as it does your brain. By immersing myself in nature, away from the hectic nature of our daily lives and always-on technology, it brings about peace and a unique sense of well-being. What’s something most people don’t know about you? I was an employee of an NBA team for more than 4 years. In that role, I worked directly with some of the world’s greatest professional athletes.
