Michael Spino

Biography

  Michael Spino is the President of ApoPharma Inc. He received his B.Sc.Phm. degree from the University of Toronto in 1967 and his Pharm.D. degree from the University of California, San Francisco Medical Center in 1973, followed by a Post Doctoral Research Fellowship in Clinical Pharmacology in Toronto. He was appointed to the academic staff of the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Toronto in 1974, where his main research interest was in the field of drug disposition, with a particular focus on Cystic Fibrosis. In 1990, Dr. Spino rose to the rank of full Professor, and continues with his appointment to the present day. In 1991, Dr. Spino joined Apotex Inc. as VP, Scientific Affairs, where he oversaw research and development of generic drugs and initiated innovative drug development a year later. Eventually the research into new drugs resulted in the establishment of a spin-off company from Apotex, called ApoPharma Inc. As President of ApoPharma, Dr. Spino remains actively involved in all aspects of the science and the business of the company and has been able to attract key people to oversee the various departments of ApoPharma.
