Biography

 Maarten’s motto is: ‘A good patent is a cast-iron business tool’. He is able to combine patent expertise and the strategic view as hardly anybody else. This is based on his long term (10+ years) experience in outstanding industrial practice and thereafter at an international law firm. As a result, his expertise involves a wealth of aspects of the IP practice, on the basis of proven experience: ·         Due diligence proceedings in the course of Mergers & Acquisitions, including both validity and infringement review, as well as portfolios, agreements and negotiations; ·         Technology and patent licensing, and related agreements; ·         Patent enforcement procedures, for instance with seizures; ·         Drafting of non-infringement defenses; ·         Evaluation of inventions, as to whether they are ready for patent filing and what type of claims to add to obtain a desired protection; ·         Guide and expert on IP for start-up companies; ·         Portfolio management and valuation of patents; ·         Support of IP lawyers and the drafting of expert reports; ·         Drafting, prosecution and opposition of patents Guiding of inventors is – in addition to all these complex procedures – something that Maarten likes. And he has been built up technical know-how in a wide range of areas: from flexible nanotech to pharma, from manufacturing processes to packaging and from inorganic and polymer chemistry to devices and equipment. And not to forget: experience in semiconductors on the basis of 10 years in Philips and NXP Semiconductors. As of 2013, Maarten works in the Brussels office, so as to support high tech companies and to provide thorough and good advice in the heart of Europe.
