Biography
Walter Pirovano (PhD) is the Director of the Bioinformatics department and a member of the BaseClear Management Team. He obtained his Master’s degree in (Molecular) Biology at the University of Milan. After an internship in the Bioinformatics group of Prof. Graziano Pesole, he went to Amsterdam for an exciting Ph.D. project on protein sequence analysis, under the supervision of Prof. Jaap Heringa and Dr. Anton Feenstra. The project resulted in high-impact publications addressing a series of different computational biology questions, including the identification of functional sites in protein subfamilies (Pirovano et al., 2006) and accurate sequence analysis and alignment of transmembrane proteins (Pirovano et al., 2008).
