Biography
M. (Michael) Afanasyev is a Ph.D. researcher in Geo-Environmental Engineering. In his research he study corrosion systems in soil. He collect and analyse field samples of such corrosion systems, He try to replicate these systems in a controlled laboratory environment and construct numerical models of the processes occurring in soil nearby corroding metal. Understanding these processes will ultimately allow us to utilize them in maximizing the protectiveness of naturally occurring coatings on metal infrastructure in soil, as a first step in developing the capacity to use Nature's constructive forces in assembling functioning structures.
