Biography

Elyse Mills is a PhD researcher in the Political Economy of Resources, Environment and Population (PER) programme at the International Institute of Social Studies (ISS) in The Hague, The Netherlands. She holds a BA (Hons) in International Development Studies from York University (Canada), and an MA in Agrarian and Environmental Studies, with a specialization in Agriculture and Rural Development from ISS. She has worked on research projects on a range of topics, including young farmers’ access to land in the Global North, agricultural investment in Southeast Asia, the development of the global bioeconomy, land grabbing by EU actors, and fisheries governance. Currently, her PhD research focuses on the dynamics of transnational fishers’ movements, how they shape and are shaped by food and climate politics, how they engage with other resource justice movements (e.g. agrarian and climate justice), and the alternatives they are proposing for climate change mitigation and fisheries governance. She also works with many civil society groups on food and environmental issues, and co-coordinates the Initiatives in Critical Agrarian Studies (ICAS) in The Hague.
