This PhD research attempts to ascertain and evaluate the impacts of The Char Development and Settlement Project (CDSP) on the overall livelihood status of the people living in the char areas with specific focus on the; the economic status and asset base of the participants, labour force characteristics, food security, women empowerment, health and hygiene practice, educational status, human rights and legal issues awareness, disaster management. The primary objective of this proposal will be to investigate whether the changes in the participants’ welfare can be attributed to the programme intervention, and its magnitude. In order to get a comprehensive view of the programme’s efficacy, we opt to follow a mixed (both qualitative and quantitative) methods approach.
