Biography

Renata Cavalcanti Muniz is a PhD researcher at ISS funded by the Brazilian government via the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPQ-Brazil). Currently, at ISS-Erasmus, she is in the second year of her PhD as part of two research programs - Economics of Development and Emerging Markets (EDEM) and Civic Innovation Research Initiative (CIRI). In her research under the title of “Economic diplomacy as a tool for development: A comparative analysis between Brazil and the Netherlands”, Renata compares the use of Economic diplomacy by Brazil and the Netherlands in ports. The study attempts to analyse the influence of the the role of the state in the participation in Global Production Networks and in development by looking at three cases studies, the Port of Rotterdam, the Port of Santos and the project of Porto Central. Within the broader research interest that brings Diplomacy, Development and International Trade together, Renata’s research interests focuses on Brazilian Foreign Policy, economic diplomacy and global trade nuances. Renata has an academic background in International Relations from her master at the Geneva School of Diplomacy and specialisation at the University Cândido Mendes, in Brazil, and in communication studies from her Bachelors at the Pontifícia Universidade Católica of Rio de Janeiro.
