Biography
Education: Licenciatura in Linguistics, Escuela Nacional de Antropología e Historia (ENAH), Mexico city. (1985-1989) MA: Linguistics of the Americas. Centro de Investigación y Estudios Superiores en Antropología Social (CIESAS), Mexico city (1993-1994).
Research Interest
At present: PhD candidate in the project 'Time in Intercultural Context: The Indigenous Calendars of Mexico and Guatemala' (directed by Prof. Dr. Maarten E.R.G.N. Jansen, carried out at the Faculty of Archaeology, Leiden University, with the financial support of ERC Advanced Grant No: 295434). The PhD research focuses on the documentation and analysis of Ayuuk (Mixe) narratives and ceremonial discourse, related to the Mesoamerican calendar and divination. The main purpose of this project is to describe the conceptualization of space and time in the Ayuuk culture, which is associated with the meteorological / astronomical phenomena, animal behavior and agricultural work. This in the wider context of a general understanding Ayuuk religion and ritualism. One of the aims is to compare the present-day traditional worldview with the symbolism of the precolonial Mesoamerican codices.
