Biography
Eldris Con Aguilar holds a Bachelor degree with Cum Laude Honours in Education (History and Geography) from Universidad Católica Andrés Bello, Venezuela (2011) and a Master of Arts degree in Latin American Studies; with a specialization in modern history from Leiden University (2012). As extracurricular activities during her undergraduate studies in Venezuela she was an instructor in theatre workshops for primary schools as member of the university’s theatre group. Her research interests are educational programmes, public policies, community participation, cultural identity and archaeological heritage.
Research Interest
The PhD research conducted by Eldris Con Aguilar, studies from a pedagogical perspective the present situation of teaching indigenous history and heritage in today’s Caribbean society. She explores teachers’ beliefs and knowledge about this topic from an ethnographic approach: fieldworks, interviews and surveys with teachers and stakeholders have been conducted for her research. Her research includes partnerships with local institutions and members of the community and their contributions have been of great value for this study. Research in education can contribute in sharing knowledge with the school community and stakeholders about teaching & learning contents, practices and policies. This study will inform and provide insight into the present situation of indigenous history and heritage in both formal and informal educational settings.
