F. Fantone Ma

Biography

Federica Fantone obtained a Research Master in Archaeology at the University of Groningen with a thesis discussing the representativeness of the archaeobotanical archive with a focus on taphonomy at Roman Karanis (Fayum, Egypt). She participated as specialist in archaeobotany in fieldwork projects in Egypt and Turkey. She is a PhD candidate at the Faculty of Archaeology, from January 2012.

Research Interest

The research will investigate the agricultural economy of the Dunnu (fortified estate) at Tell Sabi Abyad with a focus on the role agriculture played in different economic spheres and on the ways agricultural activities were organized. Relevant aspects of the agriculture system will be reconstructed and correlated with the functions the estate served and changes therein over time. The archaeobotanical research will include the analysis of sub-fossil charred plant remains from different archaeological contexts preserved in situ. In addition many cuneiform tablets recovered at the site and concerning the managing of the agriculture estate will give the opportunity to combine both archaeobotanical and textual records.
