M. Veldic

Biography

Martti Veldi obtained his BA (2004) and MA (2009) degrees from the University of Tartu, Estonia. His MA thesis Centers and Communication in South-Eastern Estonia during the Iron Age in the context of Early Modern Era maps explored the opportunities of interpreting Iron Age communication combining 17 th century maps and data on archaeological sites. During 2007–2011 Martti worked as a senior inspector of archaeological monuments in South Estonia for the National Heritage Board.

Research Interest

His current PhD research concentrates on biographical approach to archaeological landscapes in East Estonian landscape region called Vooremaa. The research topic Landscape biographies and archaeological heritage landscape expects a thorough dissertation of a certain landscape region considering various aspects of natural sciences, archaeology, history, and heritage management in the broader context of space and time. The further goal of the thesis is to elaborate practical methodology for distinguishing the elements of archaeological heritage landscape, which would enable to create effective concept of landscape protection through sustainable development. The study aims to unite methods of landscape archaeology, heritage management and cultural geography. The PhD research is funded by Archimedes Foundation.
