Mr. D.r. Pomstra

Biography

Diederik Pomstra studied Dutch and International Law in Utrecht but became involved in his great passion, prehistoric technology and experimental archaeology, soon after obtaining his master thesis. At first he worked as a self-employed stone age craftsperson making replicas of a wide variety of materials for both scientific experiments and museum exhibitions. After meeting prof. Van Gijn during a mesolithic living project in 2005, Diederik began to contribute to scientific work and to teach archaeology students during practicals and fieldwork. The building of Horsterwold house, a reconstructed neolithic house from the Vlaardingen Culture, was the first large scale fieldwork project to which he contributed as a toolmaker and skilled builder.

Research Interest

Diederik also has a position as Research Associate at the University of York where he contributes to archaeological experiments on artifacts found at Star Carr.
