Ruurd Binnert Halbertsma (Amersfoort, 1958) studied Classical Languages, Ancient History and Archaeology at the Leiden University. He undertook fieldwork in Italy and carried out research in Greece, Turkey, Italy and Tunisia. In 2003 he published ‘Scholars, Travellers and Trade’, a monograph on the early history of archaeology in the Netherlands.
