Biography
Jan-Jakob Sonke received his PhD degree in the field of room acoustics from the Delft University of Technology in 2000. Subsequently he started his career in the field of radiation oncology as a post doc with the characterization and clinical implementation of amorphous silicon (a-Si) electronic portal imaging devices in the lab of Marcel van Herk. In 2005 he received his first KWF grant and became a staff scientist in the department of radiation oncology. In 2009 he was appointed junior group leader (assistant professor) on adaptive radiation therapy at the Netherlands Cancer Institute. He received the Estro Varian Physics award.
Research Interest
His scientific contributions include the development and clinical implementation of four dimensional CBCT guided radiotherapy that allows the characterization of patients respiration just prior to radiation delivery. Currently he leads a research group focusing on (4D) CBCT image quality, image guided and adaptive radiotherapy, incorporating functional imaging for optimal dose redistribution, and normal tissue complication probability modeling.
