Biography
After earning her degree in English Language and Literature, Ms Wierda taught English for ten years at various secondary schools. She then worked as an instructor in English in the teacher training programmes at NHL University of Applied Sciences. From 2004 to 2009, she was involved in the Profed project in Vietnam, where the main areas of research are professional and competency-based learning and e-learning. Ms Wierda focuses on the role IT and new media can potentially play in the learning process of young pupils and students. Within the department, she is concerned with special software and Communities of Practice, aimed at informal language acquisition. Since 2010, she has been the project leader for the MySchoolsNetwork project, which was awarded the European Language Label for ‘Most Innovative Education Project’ in 2012.
