Biography
Sieneke Goorhuis-Brouwer has been a Professor of Applied Sciences in the Early Childhood Studies Department since 2012. As an Affiliate Professor in Child Speech and Language Disorders at Groningen University, she researched the epidemiology of speech and language problems, the diagnostic processes involved in these problems, and the effects of speech and language problems on children’s social and emotional development. During the last few years of her active medical practice, she and her team examined roughly 30 children a week who were believed to be developmentally delayed. Alarmed by the growing number of otherwise healthy children appearing at the clinic, she decided to focus on the phenomenon of preschoolers and toddlers being increasingly treated like older, school-age children.
