Meiszner, Andreas

Biography

Dr. Andreas Meiszner is a senior researcher and project manager at the UNU Maastricht Economic and Social Research and Training Centre on Innovation and Technology (UNU-MERIT) and an experienced international consultant focusing on education, innovation, and training. Andreas has joined UNU-MERIT in July 2009 to assume the role as the principal project manager of the FP7 funded FLOSS Include project and the German funded ict@innovation African FOSS Business Models training program. Prior to joining UNU-MERIT he has worked at SPI, Sociedade Portuguesa de Inovação (Portugal), as a consultant and technology expert, two fields he combines with his work in innovative education. While being with SPI Andreas has developed and coordinated a number of educational projects, such as InnoUniLearning (2004–2006), FLOSSCom (2006–2008), openSE (2009–2011) or openEd 2.0 (2009–2012). Andreas continues to remain the principle project advisor for the openSE and openEd 2.0 projects on behalf of SPI. Andreas research and project experience are related to the fields of open education, open source software and their communities, open educational resources and web 2.0 applications. In 2010, Andreas received his Ph.D. from the Institute of Educational Technology at the Open University (UK) where his research work and investigations focused on new open learning systems and the coupling of technology with education. Andreas received his doctorate for his work titled “The Emergence of Free / Open Courses — Lessons from the Open Source Movement”. Besides the world of academic research, Andreas also worked in various business sectors and functions over the past 15 years, such as Vodafone Germany or the German Portuguese Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Porto, Portugal. Andreas holds three higher education degrees in management from universities in France, Germany and The Netherlands. Andreas is also an active member of the UNESCO online community on Open Educational Resources and acts as an evaluator to the German BIBB or the EACEA.
