Biography
Research in the domain of micro and nanotechnology has resulted in a vast repertoire of knowledge on basic phenomena at the small scale and the realization of elementary functions (e.g. for sensing or actuating). Bringing these functions into useful devices, at the same time demanding industrially viable manufacturing of these devices, requires the development of technology and design approaches geared towards robust volume manufacturing. In my research activities I have put the emphasis on the issues related to the volume manufacturability of microsystems, with the focus on assembly or integration. A production and engineering approach to developing viable micromanufacturing processes and design approaches is an essential contribution to the field. My ambition is to continue building a university-based research program to support the establishment of a new, micro and nano oriented, manufacturing industry in Europe.
