Biography
During her PhD thesis Gerdien Dalmeijer investigated the role of matrix Gla protein (MGP) carboxylation in the association between high vitamin K intake and a reduced risk of calcification and CVD. The last 2,5 years her research focused on the question how early life factors (i.e. nutrition, exposure during pregnancy, second hand smoking) can influence the development of cardiovascular health (weight, vascular characteristics) and she got fascinated by this research field. Her fascination of this research field, has led her to become highly interested in a new research question: how does inflammation, both chronic and acute inflammation, contribute to cardiovascular health throughout life. One innovative element of her research is the measurement of cardiovascular health by a non-invasive ultrasound at different ages.
