Biography

J.L.H. Ruud Bosch received his MD degree from the University of Utrecht in 1977. He subsequently worked as a tropical doctor in Tanzania, Africa. After this he did his general surgery and urology residency training in Enschede and at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam. In 1987-1988 he was a fellow at the department of urology, University of California at San Francisco, USA. Following this, he joined the staff of the department of urology at Erasmus University Hospital in Rotterdam. He did his PhD thesis on "Epidemiological and pathophysiological aspects of benign prostatic hyperplasia" and is a fellow of the European Board of Urology. In 2004 he was appointed Professor and Chairman of the department of Urology at the University Medical Center Utrecht, Utrecht, the Netherlands. He is a member of several international societies: the European Association of Urology, the American Urological Association, the International Continence Society and the Societé International d’ Urologie. In 2007 he was the meeting chairman of the ICS annual meeting, held in Rotterdam [NL]. For his research he received several prizes such as the Lapides prize for Neurourology and Urodynamics research and the Dantec-Medtronic prize of the International Continence Society [2x]. His research interests are minimally invasive diagnostic techniques and treatments for bladder and kidney cancer and urethral reconstruction through tissue engineering. J.L.H.
