Biography
Commander (Royal Netherlands Navy) Dr. Martin Fink is an external senior researcher in the Role of Armed Conflict-program at the Amsterdam Centre of International Law (ACIL). He obtained his law degree from the University of Leiden and holds a PhD of the University of Amsterdam on Maritime Interception Operations and the Law of Naval Operations. As a military legal advisor of the Royal Netherlands Navy he has held different postings, among which were postings at the Maritime Battlestaff of the Netherlands Maritime Force, the NATO Joint Force Command in Naples (Italy), the Netherlands Defence Academy (NLDA), as a lecturer of the laws of armed conflict and international law, and at the Netherlands Admiralty. He participated in several operations, among which were Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya and the UN-mission UNMISS in South-Sudan. His academic interests are primarily the international law of military operations, and in particular the law applicable to naval operations and the laws of naval warfare.
