Biography

Ellen van Oost is associate professor in the field of sociology of technology at the University of Twente in The Netherlands. She has a masters degree in mathematical engineering and did a PhD in the field of gender and technology. Together with a colleague she wrote a Dutch textbook on Technology Dynamics and Assessment. Currently she teaches Technology Assessment in the Bachelor programmes Computer Science and Health science, and in the Master Programme Philosophy of Science, Technology and Society. Her research interests and publications include history of ICT, the co-construction of users and technology, gender and technology. She is a member of the Research Institutes CTIT (Centre for Telematics and Information Technology) and IGS (Institute for Governance Studies) both at the University of Twente. She is an active member of diverse professional organizations (4S, EASST, Dutch Association for Women’s Studies) and the Netherlands Graduate Research School of Science, Technology and Modern Culture (WTMC).

Research Interest

Her present research interests focus on the innovative role of users and user communities in ICT based innovations. She is too participates in the EU project Research and Innovation Futures (RIF) 2030.
