Biography
Erik Stam, professor of entrepreneurship and innovation at Utrecht University School of Economics (U.S.E.), conducted research on crowdfunding. He observes that crowdfund platforms utilise opportunities that banks do not. Loans between 20,000 and 250,000 euros are generally not of interest to banks. "Dutch banks are champions in dismissing small and medium-sized enterprises (SME). Many entrepreneurs simply stopped trying and go directly for an alternative form of funding." According to Stam it is a good thing that there are several forms of funding. "It makes for healthy competition."
