Biography
Floris Schuiling's research combines musicology with the anthropology of media and material culture. One of his central research aims is a reconsideration of musical performance and experience in terms of people's relationship to technologies and material objects more generally. This includes questions about the role of embodied knowledge, improvisation, and creativity in human behaviour; how these skills are used to cultivate personal and collective identities; and a reflexive theorisation of music itself as the interplay between human and non-human actors.
