Biography
Joep Schenk is post-doc at the ERC project 'Securing Europe, fighting its enemies 1815-1914' led by Prof. Beatrice de Graaf. His interest is in explaining major international events in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries as a result of social processes. Behind events such as war, genocide or (industrial) revolution are hiding power structures within which politically, economically or religiously motivated actors can be identified. The tension between individual actors and historical, social or geographical structures and, on the other hand, between (national) state interests and (international) private interests is a common theme in its research.
