Biography
Having been trained as ethologist/zoologist in Giessen (Germany) and Cologne (Germany), dr. Saskia S. Arndt worked at different high-ranking research institutes, such as the Yerkes National Primate Research Center (Atlanta, USA), the German Primate Center (Göttingen, Germany) and the Medical Faculty of the University of Cologne (Germany). After obtaining her PhD summa cum laude in 2004, she came to Utrecht in 2005 and became an associate professor in 2016. She is responsible for content, evaluation and development of education at the department of Animals in Science & Society and combines her passion for teaching and research excellence with her passion for animal behaviour, animal welfare and veterinary medicine. Her main research focus is on developing knowledge regarding new, mainly ethological, methods allowing to interpret animal emotions and regarding the translation of this knowledge to frames of thinking and discussion for the veterinarian and other stakeholders in the field of animal welfare.
