Biography

Cees van Rijn graduated from the Vrije Universiteit of Amsterdam in 1982 on Solid State Physics. He received a Ph.D degree in 1989 from the University of Leiden. He has worked at Philips Eindhoven and gained special expertise in semiconductor technology during the ‘Megachip’ project (1986-1991). From 1992-2005 he worked in the field of Transducer Technology at University of Twente. In 2004 he published a book titled ‘Nano and Micro Engineered Membrane Technology’, Elsevier Amsterdam (2004) ISBN 0.444-51489-9. The book covers a broad spectrum of membrane science and technology, such as microfluidics, membrane filtration, gas separation, biosensors, controlled drug delivery, nanopatterning, micro contact printing, atomization, and emulsification techniques. He has established 7 spin-off companies, including Nanomi, Medspray and Vycap. Since 2007 he is working at the laboratory of organic chemistry (ORC) on surface chemistry applications of microfluidic devices at Wageningen University. His recent interest are in the fields of microfluidic applications for atomization, emulsification, and encapsulation and also in the field of bioconjugated chemistry and physics for medical application.
