Sjoukje Osinga
Professor
Department of Information Technology
Wageningen University
Netherlands
Biography
Sjoukje Osinga studied Artificial Intelligence and Cognitive Science in Groningen and Leuven. Her PhD research (April 2015, Wageningen) was on agent-based modelling (ABM) of knowledge management in the pig sector. As part of her PhD research, she spent six months in China, where she studied information management of pig farmers and pork chain stakeholders. Currently, her ABM research interests cover knowledge representation, human decision behaviour, and methodological issues: developing and managing successive model versions, the multiple levels of analysis in ABMs (e.g. farmer-level decisions versus sector-level outcomes), and validity/plausibility of ABMs. Specific modelling interests include farmers' (and veterinarians') compliance behaviour with respect to antibiotics use, and ABM of software eco-systems. Sjoukje is main teacher of INF-course Applied Information Technology. This course is mainly followed by BBC students, but is also part of minor Quantified Self. Sjoukje is also involved in the minor's integrating course Monitoring Dietary Behaviour. Agent-Based Modelling is a course close to her research interests. She is a regular teacher of Programming in Python, and she is involved in the IT-part of course Advanced Supply Chain Management. Sjoukje has been a teacher in nearly 20 former courses within the range of the Information Technology Group.
