Biography
Born in the Hokianga of Ngapuhi and Dutch descent, Margareth was raised in South Auckland returning permanently to Te Tai Tokerau in 2006. Margareth trained as an RGON at Auckland Hospital, completing her degree at Unitec and Masters at the University of Auckland. Her health career spans a range of clinical practice, health education, management and leadership roles. Margareth’s clinical background includes haematology, general surgical, gynaecology and obstetrics theatre nursing. She has been a nurse educator with MIT and the UoA specialising in Kawa Whakaruruhau and Te Tiriti o Waitangi education. She has been a manager within Maori provider and community development settings and leadership roles with ADHB as a new graduate coordinator and the Associate Director of Nursing: Maori. Appointed to the role of Director of Nursing and Midwifery in 2010, Margareth has the professional accountability and leadership for safe, high quality nursing and midwifery practice that provides compassionate patient and family centred care. She feels it is an honour to be the leader for nursing and midwifery in Te Tai Tokerau and is so proud to be part of a dynamic and passionate workforce. Her professional affiliations include membership with the College of Nurses of Aotearoa and Executive, Chair of the Northland branch and executive member of the National Council of Maori Nurses, She is also a member of the NZNC Maori Advisory, NZNC Competency Review panellist, and a Health Practitioner Disciplinary Tribunal member.
