Biography
Leanne Berkahn is a clinical haematologist specialising in leukaemia and lymphoma. She graduated from the University of Otago School of Medicine in 1986 before becoming a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia. After graduating, Leanne worked for a number of years overseas, principally as a bone marrow transplant physician at Rush University in Chicago. On her return to New Zealand, Leanne became Head of the Lymphoma Service at Auckland Hospital. She is also a senior lecturer in the Department of Molecular Medicine and Pathology at the University of Auckland School of Medicine. Dr Berkahn provides expert commentary for New Zealand's Lymphoma and Leukaemia Research Review. She is heavily involved in research and is the principal investigator in a number of clinical trials. Her current research interests are in immunotherapeutic approaches to leukaemia and lymphoma treatment. Leanne has three school age children and a fox terrier. She is a keen athlete and spends as much time as possible with her family on Rakino Island.
