Biography
Professor Michael Findlay specialises in the field of gastro-intestinal malignancy. He graduated from Otago University School of Medicine in 1983 before specialising in the field of Medical Oncology. He was granted entry to the Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 1990. He trained in Wellington, Sydney and London, where he developed a clinical research interest in the field of gastro-intestinal malignancy. He completed a Doctor of Medicine degree in this field while in London before returning to Sydney and then New Zealand. In 2002 he was appointed Professor of Oncology at the University of Auckland. Michael is a practising Medical Oncologist both at Auckland City Hospital's Regional Cancer Service and Canopy Cancer Care. He has a research interest in the field of gastric, oesophageal, liver, pancreatic, neuroendocrine, GIST and colorectal (bowel) cancers. In addition to being a member of the Board and Scientific Advisory Committee of the Australasian Gastro-Intestinal Trials Group he is Director of Cancer Trials New Zealand – a national cancer clinical research organisation. Michael is married with three children and in his spare time enjoys time with his family, travel and playing golf rather badly.
