Biography
Kathy is a principal academic staff member at the Eastern Institute of Technology. Born in Christchurch/Otautahi she became a registered nurse and then after the birth of her two beautiful daughters she was inspired to complete her midwifery qualification in Scotland. Returning to New Zealand in 1990 she settled in Hawke’s Bay where the sea and the land are warm ( but still misses decent mountains). She developed a passion for breastfeeding working in postnatal care and became an IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant ) in 1996. After spending some time at Arohaina Maternity Unit in Napier ,Kathy completed her Bachelor Arts in Social Sciences and moved to Eastern Institute of Technology in 1996. She completed her Master of Midwifery in 2005.Currently Kathy is the Bachelor of Nursing Programme Coordinator and coordinates two masters courses in MN /MHSC programme , teaches in the BN programme, supervises MN theses and works on research exploring her favourite topic …..breastfeeding.
