Biography
Current design-directed research projects include the Eden Project NZ, Ngai Tahu Farming’s 7600ha Eyrewell dairy development project, and Rio Tinto’s Paparoa National Park mining restoration project. Edited books on landscape themes include Wild Heart: the Possibility of Wilderness in Aotearoa New Zealand (2011), Making our place: exploring land-use tension in Aotearoa New Zealand (2011), and Beyond the Scene: Perspectives on landscape in Aotearoa New Zealand (2010). He is an editorial board member of Landscape Review, regular columnist for NZ Wilderness Magazine, and chair of the Canterbury Aoraki Conservation Board.
Research Interest
Dr Mick Abbott’s research investigates how social, cultural and economic value can be built out of strategies that increase biodiversity.
