Biography
Prof Travis Glare is Director of the Bio-Protection Research Centre. Travis is also Professor of Applied Entomology at Lincoln University. Previously, he worked for over 20 years as a researcher in MAF Technology and as both a researcher and manager for AgResearch, a Crown-owned Research Institute. Travis's research background is in insect pathology, molecular biology and ecology. He trained at the Australian National University, CSIRO Division of Entomology and with the USDA insect pathogens laboratory at Cornell University, New York State. Early postgraduate research focused on control of aphids using insect-killing fungi, and much of his subsequent research has been on biological control of various invertebrate pests. In AgResearch, he held positions from research scientist to General Manager of Science Strategy. He has worked on many national and international research and consulting programmes, and served on national pest incursion taskforces. He was on the board of Pastoral Genomics, a joint venture which manages research into forage improvement through biotechnology, and has been Honorary Fellow of the Department of Microbiology at Otago University. He is involved in several multiple partner research programmes focusing on development of new biopesticides.
