Jean-charles Wirth

Biography

 Jean-Charles Wirth is Head of Applied Solutions. In this role, he oversees Commercial, Services, Dealer Relations, Marketing, Product Management, Strategy, Business Development and Research activities for the Applied Solutions Business Unit.  Prior to his current appointment, Wirth was Executive Vice President – Head of Life Science Controlling. In this role, he provided financial decision support on a wide scope of operational and strategic matters and managed all areas of financial responsibility, including financial reporting and forecasting, business analysis, resource allocation and capital planning.  He played an active role to transform Merck from 2.3 billion EUR to 6.0 Billion EUR million Life Science solution provider through a combination of organic growth, acquisition and strategic partnerships, while improving the EBITDA pre margin from ~23% to ~30%.  Wirth joined the organization in 2006 via Millipore, where he had served in different positions, including Head of Controlling for Merck's Performance Materials sector. Prior to joining the company, Wirth served as a Finance Manager for Baxter. He has also held financial, controlling and consultant positions at PricewaterhouseCoopers, Crown Inc. and Alcatel Lucent.  Wirth has deep expertise in finance, strategic planner, problem solver, innovative leader, being able to take on difficult business situations and create winning businesses - with a reputation of building energized teams focused. He lived and worked in Africa, Europe and North America.  Wirth received a Master of Business Administration degree from Sciences Po in Paris and graduated from the Ecole Supérieure de Gestion Paris Business School.
