Margaret Foster

Biography

 Margaret Foster MNZM is a New Zealand netball coach and former Silver Ferns player. Foster played seven international matches from 1994-2001. She played domestic netball in the National Bank Cup for the Canterbury Flames, playing in 1998, 1999 and 2001; she also coached the team in 2000 and from 2002-2007. After the National Bank Cup was replaced by the ANZ Championship in April 2008, Foster was replaced as coach of the Christchurch-based Canterbury franchise by Helen Mahon-Stroud. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006 but signed up as assistant coach of the Southern Steel in 2009. She has drawn on the skills learned as a professional coach and applied them to her fight with breast cancer. Margaret Foster wants to encourage other cancer sufferers, giving them hope, faith and a sense of purpose. In 2009, Margaret was made a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit as part of the Queen’s Birthday honours list, for services to netball.
