Biography
John joined the Foundation as a Trustee in mid-2014 and in November was appointed by the Board as the Foundation’s Chairman. Recently retired, John has had a long and successful business career. A Chartered Accountant, John built and ran a group of companies involved in import/export activities, especially in the textile market. John has also been active in the NFP sector for many years including 12 years as a Trustee of Presbyterian Support Northern, a large social services provider for the Northern region of New Zealand. John also has significant experience in senior volunteer roles such as President of the New Zealand National Party, President of Auckland C & R Association and Chairman of the Newmarket Business Association, as well as long service in church and other organisations. John also served on the Board of ACC for more than seven years including chairing the Audit Committee and two years as Deputy Chair. John is a member of the Institute of Directors, the Chartered Institute of Secretaries and Administrators and is a Justice of the Peace. John’s wife, Margaret, sadly passed away from a gynaecological cancer in 2012 and John is looking forward to helping the Foundation make a difference in this area of women’s health. John lives in Auckland and has three adult children and six grandchildren.
